What is Kerendia 20 mg tablet?
Kerendia 20 mg is a tablet for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) linked to type‑2 diabetes. Finerenone 20 mg is the active ingredient in this medication. It helps lower the chance of the kidneys getting worse and also reduces heart problems like heart failure or heart attack. It is not a diuretic. It works on hormone receptors that push inflammation and scarring inside the kidney and heart.
How it works
Finerenone 20 mg blocks the mineralocorticoid receptor. This receptor, when overactive, makes kidney cells inflamed and fibrotic. By stopping the mineralocorticoid receptor, swelling calms down. So, kidney disease damage is reduced, and the heart gets some protection too.
Uses
Adults with:
- CKD stages 1–4 (but not on dialysis) with type‑2 diabetes and albumin in urine.
- Potassium (K⁺) level at start must be ≤5.0 mEq/L. The doctor checks this before the first pill.
Some new updates show benefits on wider cardiorenal outcomes too, but your nephrologist decides if you fit.
Dose & how to take
The starting dose depends on kidney filter rate (eGFR) and potassium.
- Swallow the tablet with water. Food on an empty stomach is fine.
- Same time daily helps make a habit.
Kerendia 20 mg is a step up dose of 10 mg.
Missed dose
If the same day, take it when you remember. Next day already? Skip the old one. Never double or overdose.
Side effects
- High potassium (hyperkalemia) is the most common.
- Low blood pressure (hypotension)
- Low sodium (hyponatremia)
- Mild nausea, tiredness, and skin rash may appear.

Keep tablets at room temp 20–25 °C (can range 15–30 °C). Dry place, original blister. Away from kids. Don’t use after expiry.
