Tosiban 37.5 mg injection contains atosiban 37.5 mg as its active ingredient. It is manufactured by Zuventus Healthcare Limited. The medication is used to prevent premature labour in pregnant womenr.
Uses
The active ingredient Atosiban 37.5 mg is given by doctor to pregnant women, in order to prevent preterm labour. It is given when contractions start too early between 24 and 33 weeks of pregnancy. This gives time for the baby to develop properly untill the 39-40 weeks.
How does it work?
Atosiban blocks oxytocin receptors in the uterus. Oxytocin is the hormone that triggers uterine contractions. By blocking those receptors, atosiban reduces how often contractions happen and how strong they are. The uterus relaxes. This gives time for the pregnancy to continue safely.
This is a ready-to-use intravenous injection. No reconstitution is needed. The vial comes pre-filled with solution. It is given through an IV line, not subcutaneously. Treatment starts with a single slow bolus dose given over one minute. After that, a continuous IV infusion follows for up to 45 hours.
The infusion rate is adjusted depending on how the patient responds. A doctor or trained nurse must set up and monitor the IV line throughout.
How should you store it?
- Once the vial is opened, use it immediately. Do not save unused solution for later.
- Keep Tosiban 37.5 mg injection refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze it.
- Store the vial away from direct light and out of reach of children.

How long does treatment last?
The full treatment course runs up to 48 hours total. It is not a long-term medication. Treatment stops once contractions are under control or if the clinical situation changes.
