What is Luprodex 11.25 mg Injection?

Luprodex 11.25 mg Injection is primarily used in the treatment of Prostate Cancer in men and Endometriosis in women.

Luprodex 11.25 mg injection contains leuprolide acetate, a category of synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. This injection is used for managing hormone-sensitive conditions by suppressing the production of sex hormones in patients.

• Prostate cancer—cancer of the prostate gland (a small gland under the bladder that produces semen) found only in men. The symptoms include difficulty in urination, pain, numbness, or sexual difficulties.
• For women, it is used to treat hormone-responsive breast Cancer, uterine fibroids (non-cancerous growths of the uterus), and Endometriosis. Endometriosis is an illness where the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of the uterus in women, resulting in chronic pain and irregularities in the menstrual cycle.

In men, Luprodex 11.25 mg Injection is used to treat prostate cancer. It works by reducing the production of the sex hormone testosterone in men. Reduction of the testosterone levels in the blood in males thus slows the growth of cancer cells.

In women suffering from Endometriosis, the injection decreases the production of estrogen (hormone responsible for menstruation and the growth of endometrial tissues) in the ovaries, slowing the progression of endometrial tissues growing outside the uterus, shrinking existing uterine fibroids, relieving pain and cramps, and improving menstrual symptoms.

In children, this injection is also used to treat central precocious puberty, a condition where a child’s body begins to change into an adult too soon, caused by a release of certain hormones, like gonadotropins. The injection works by suppressing the release of gonadotropins, thus delaying the onset of puberty.
