What is Rebopag 25 mg Tablet
Rebopag 25 mg Tablet is a medicine used when platelet count is low. It contains Eltrombopag, a thrombopoietin receptor agonist. It helps your bone marrow make more platelets so bleeding risk goes down. Platelets are the tiny cells that help blood to clot and stop bleeding.
Doctors use Rebopag in people whose body does not make enough platelets on its own, or when platelets are destroyed by the immune system. It is a strong prescription medicine. Do not start or stop it on your own.
Where Rebopag is used
- Chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura: When your immune system attacks your own platelets and you keep getting low counts, bruises, or nosebleeds.
- Low platelets with chronic hepatitis C infection: It helps raise platelets so that interferon or antiviral treatment can be given more safely.
- Severe aplastic anemia: When bone marrow is very weak and cannot make enough blood cells, and other treatments did not work well.
How Rebopag 25 mg works
In our body there is a hormone called thrombopoietin. It tells bone marrow to produce megakaryocytes. Megakaryocytes are large cells that release platelets into blood.
Eltrombopag in Rebopag sits on the thrombopoietin receptor on these cells and activates it. So the bone marrow starts producing more megakaryocytes and more platelets. Platelet count slowly goes up and reduces bleeding risk. It does not treat the main cause of disease, but it helps control symptoms and prevent emergency bleeding.
How to take Rebopag 25 mg Tablet
Always follow the dose your hematologist or liver specialist gives. General points:
- Take the tablet once daily or as prescribed.
- Swallow whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
- Take it on an empty stomach.
- At least 1 to 2 hours before food or after 1 to 2 hours of having your food.
Try to take the tablet at the same time every day. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double dose.
Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor. Platelet count can drop sharply and bleeding can worsen if stopped abruptly.
