What is Emgrast 300 mcg injection?

Emgrast 300 mcg injection is a chemotherapy injection. Contains Filgrastim 300 mcg as an active ingredient. This medication belongs to a group of medicines called Cytokines. It is used to increase the number of white blood cells to prevent infections after chemotherapy treatment and bone marrow transplant. The medical usage of Filgrastim 300 mcg is in cancer treatment, prescribed to cancer patients during chemotherapy, it helps in improving immunity against infections.

Uses

Emgrast 300 mcg injection is also used before high-dose chemotherapy to make the bone marrow produce more stem cells after treatment. It is also used to prevent infections in patients suffering from severe chronic neutropenia (a rare blood disorder marked by abnormal white blood cell levels).  The medicine is also indicated for use to reduce the risk of infections in patients with advanced HIV infection.

It is generally recommended to avoid unnecessary drug exposure during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester when the developing fetus is most vulnerable.

Side effects

There are some common side effects of this injection are anemia, headache, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, unusual hair loss, painful rashes, and swelling in the injection area.

Other information

Emgrast 300 injection is not recommended for patients allergic to Filgrastim. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from hereditary fructose intolerance (a rare genetic disorder marked by the inability of the body to break down fructose).
Before taking this injection, inform your doctor if you suffer from sickle cell anemia (an inherited blood disorder), osteoporosis (a condition marked by weak and brittle bones), if you have kidney/liver-related problems, or most importantly, if you have allergy-related issues from any specific drugs.
